4 Grades of Acne

For many of us, acne is a mystery. It seems to afflict us at the worst possible time in our lives. Whether it is juvenile, teenage, adult, medication-induced or environmental, there are several types. But regardless of your age or gender, you may suffer from one of the four grades of acne. To help you better understand the grades of acne, I have decided to go into more detail and give a description of what symptoms and blemishes are found on the skin and the best treatment solutions.

GRADE 1

Description:

This is the mildest form of acne. Grade 1 consists of blackheads mostly on the nose and a few papules which are small, red breakouts typically found on the cheeks. These breakouts are minimal and tend to be occasional.

Treatment at Spa:

The best solution here would be to have a European Deep Cleanse Facial for oily skin once per month. This ensures complete removal of bacteria and elimination of the blackheads through the use of steam and Desquacrem. Most aestheticians will employ the technology of a Tesla High Frequency Machine which utilises current via either purple or orange light to kill all bad bacteria and promote healthy circulation.

At home:

Maintain a clear complexion at home with a basic routine that preserves the acid mantle on your face, which is the natural protective barrier you were born with that prevents infection. It is recommended that you wash both morning and evening with a Purifying Foaming Gel, tone to balance the skin’s pH to 5.5 with the Purifying Lotion, and moisturise with the Hydra-Matt Fluid in the morning which, as the name suggests, keeps your skin matte. In the evening, use the Active Cream which prevents further breakouts.

GRADE 2

Description:

This is considered moderate acne and is characterised by blackheads, milia (whiteheads), inflammation, redness, papules and pustules. They are found usually on the nose, cheeks, and chin / jaw line. More than occasional, Grade 2 acne needs more active attention.

Treatment at Spa:

In this case, you should avoid harsh scrubs with large granules that irritate and break down the skin and pores, and invite infection. Definitely invest in a skin analysis and start a skin-care programme including Correcting Facials once per week for a series of six to eight weeks initially, and then twice per month on a consistent basis including Glycolic Peeling. This facial is specific to acne skin which is due to an overproduction of oil. The professional strength ingredients found in the products actually work to bring your oil production to a normal/combination skin level.

At home:

A more intensive regime is required when dealing with controlling Grade 2 acne. Again insist on cleansing, toning and moisturising morning and evening as with Grade 1, but now you must add the Clarifying Correcting Serum and the Absorbant Mask.

GRADE 3

Description:

Very similar to Grade 2 but with more swelling, and the number of actual papules and pustules is increased significantly. Scarring tends to be more noticeable as well. In this case, it is found all over the face and neck in addition to other acne-prone areas such as the chest, back and upper arms.

Treatment at Spa / Dermatologist:

It is recommended that treatment at the spa be combined with regular visits to the dermatologist. It is best that the two therapists work together to assist with controlling this condition, the dermatologist with medications to limit frequent breakouts and the aesthetician with more professional extractions, cleansing, de-sensitising and removal of marks on the skin with Correcting Facials and Resurfacing Peeling with [W.]+ Brightening Serum.

At home:

Apply topical medication prescribed by your dermatologist and continue with a proper regime of cleansing, toning and moisturising as with Grade 2.

GRADE 4

Description:

It is the most severe form of acne and is extremely rare. Usually the skin is covered by an extreme number of pustules and edema (swelling).

Treatment at Dermatologist:

This condition can only be treated by a dermatologist.

At home:

Use all medication prescribed by your dermatologist which would typically include antibiotics.

Learn more about acne and your skin conditions in order to make the best decision to prevent and control breakouts, scarring, pitting, and dark marks. Take care of the skin you have, it’s the only one you’ve got.
