Jesus Party to resume
THE Jesus Party series will resume after a four-year break at Swallowfield Chapel, 5 Swallowfield Road in St Andrew, on Friday, June 29.
Danny Brownie, series conceptualiser, said he had to discontinue the parties — which began in 2004 — due to several other commitments. However, he thinks the parties serve an integral purpose.
“Jesus Party provides a forum where the young and the young at heart can ‘let their hair down’, and fellowship in a wholesome, positive environment,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Brownie plans to host at least eight throughout the year.
After embracing Christianity in 2004, Brownie — who was a successful producer and owner of the Mainstreet label — decided to promote the first Jesus Party in September of that year at the same location.
At the time, he cited the growing need among young people for a wholesome alternative on the entertainment scene.
“The kind where fun does not include drugs, alcohol, sex and disparaging music,” he said.
For him, it was a way of preventing young converts from “slipping through the cracks”.
