Smikle sets new stadium record

TRAVIS Smikle set a new Stadium record and Olympic A standard in winning the men’s discus throw at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Championships.

Smikle threw 67.12m on his first throw to win, surpassing the 65.00m mark needed to go this summer’s London Olympic Games.

National record holder Kenia Sinclair claimed the women’s 800m title while Ricado Cummingham captured the men’s event at the National Championships.

Sinclair finished first in a time of 2:01.55 ahead of Althea Chambers 2:03.40.

Cunningham’s time of 1:48.00 got him in ahead of Aldwyn Sappleton 1:48.43. in the men’s event.

 Korene Hinds claimed another title winning the women’s 3000m Steeplechase ina time of 9:46.46 ahead of training partner Mardrea Hyman 10:10.06.

National champion Novlene Williams-Mills is through to tomorrow’s finals of the women’s 400m after winning semi-final one in a time of 50.52 seconds ahead of Christine Day in 50.85.

Heat two was won by former champion Rosemarie Whyte in 51.11 seconds  and Shericka Williams in 51.58.

The other finalists are Shereefa Lloyd, Davita Prendergast, Jody Ann Muir and Dominique Blake.
