Shaw scores as Man City clinch historic double
Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw was among the goalscorers as Manchester City secured a commanding 4-0 win over Brighton in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
The win secured a historic domestic double for City, as they completed both the Barclays Women’s Super League title and the FA Cup in the same season for the first time in the club’s history. According to FotMob, only two other clubs have previously achieved the feat in English women’s football.
As the match got underway, Brighton applied early pressure but City gradually took control with Shaw breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute, heading home from an Alex Greenwood cross to give her side the lead.
City doubled their advantage just before halftime when Greenwood herself scored from a well-placed free kick, sending them into the break 2-0 up.
In the second half, substitute Aoba Fujino extended the lead to 3-0 after her effort deflected past Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, before Vivianne Miedema added a fourth to complete the emphatic win.
Shaw’s strike took her tally in Women’s FA Cup competition to 20 goals in 19 appearances.
Just last week, Shaw confirmed she would remain with Manchester City after agreeing to a new four-year deal.
