Ja tackle Zimbabwe in ‘quarters’ of university netball champs
JAMAICA will face Zimbabwe in a quarter-final match of the World University Netball Championship in Cape Town, South Africa, today.
Jamaica rebounded after a first-day loss to Great Britain, 46-44, to defeat Uganda 44-39 and Namibia 68-35 to set up today’s meeting with Zimbabwe.
The other quarter-final match-ups will see South Africa taking on Namibia, Ireland going up against Uganda and the USA vs Great Britain.
Hosts South Africa and Great Britain are the two unbeaten teams in the competition so far. South Africa defeated USA, 91-14, and Zimbabwe 110-12, while Great Britain defeated Jamaica 46-44, Namibia 62-33 and edged Uganda 45-44.
In yesterday’s matches, the surprise team of the tournament Uganda gave Great Britain a run for their money. Losing to Great Britain by only one goal, and outscoring them by nine in the last quarter, left the East African team feeling triumphant with a 44-45 scoreline.
