Embattled Salt Spring councillor granted bail
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — People’s National Party councillor for the Salt Spring Division, Sylvan Reid, was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of illegal possession of property.
Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong ordered the councillor to surrender his travel documents and placed a stop order at all ports of entry.
Reid is to report to the Mount Salem police station every Monday and Friday between the hours of 7:00am and 6:00pm.
He was also ordered to submit his fingerprints to the police.
Reid, who was defended by attorney-at-law Roy Fairclough, was taken into custody by members of the lottery scam task force at his Cornwall Courts, St James home.
During a search of his house the police observed a black 50-inch television, which Reid reportedly said he purchased in the US, but could not produce custom documentations requested by the police.
He was subsequently charged for illegal possession of a television.
