The emblematic three days of thoroughbred racing to honour and celebrate the occasion of Jamaica’s Emancipation and 50th year of Independence, enters its second day with the running of the $715,000 Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association (TOBA) Of Jamaica Trophy at Caymanas Park today.

Post time for the event is set at approximately 5:10 pm with first post at 12:45 pm.

The TOBA event highlights a 10-race card that features some member farms or individuals breeders whose contributions have, through the years, produced prime thoroughbred racing prospects and potential breeding stock that helped to maintain the thoroughbred racing industry.

A field of 13 will go post-ward in the TOBA Trophy feature that is drawn from among Restricted Allowance II, native-bred three-year-olds, (NW2), over 1,400 metres.

The event has attracted a number of promising three-year-olds. But here the Orange Valley Estate Limited-bred Raging Prospect is presented here as the most likely candidate to take the event. This is to a very large extend based on the colt’s strong showing during his Classic season campaign which, with better luck, might just have been unsaddled in the winner’s enclosure in the Lotto Classic.

Since then he has been fairly consistent although failing to raise a serious gallop in the presence of Typewriter in both the Jamaica Derby and St Leger. Trained by Fitzroy Glispie who part owns with Hayden C Thomas, Raging Prospect has shown that he is very comfortable at this level and looks ready to leave the group.

Beaten by a neck by Sirmandi in his last (NW2) race over 1,820 metres, none of his opponents has been as gallant in defeat as he has been. A three-year-old chestnut colt by He’stherealthing out of Raging Fury (Al’s River Cat), Raging Prospect has done most of his running over longer distances, but on the dam side, is even better suited to 1,400 metres. And being prepared with this in mind by trainer Glispie, his chances should be enhanced.

This taking into account that the son of He’stherealthing has the ammunition to either run from in front and stay there or come from off the pace in the latter stages of the milieu as he demonstrated when opening his winning account over 1,300 metres in October of last year.

Despite his good credential for winning this, Raging Prospect with Richard Mairs in the irons, cannot take this challenge as a simple catwalk.

The presence of Great Like That, the mount of Aaron Chatrie who in midweek joined batchmate Doushane Gordon as the only two riders from their class of apprentices to have ridden 100 winners up to this point, Differentgeneration, Deo Valente, with leading jockey Dane Nelson up, The Legacy, champion jockey Dick Cardenas along with Rainbow Man partnered by Shane Ellis, could provide enough variation in speed and finish to upset plans that are not well laid for a positive result.
