KINGSTON Jamaica — Two Jamaicans, double 100m-champion Shelley Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown, will light up the Olympic podium at 1:55pm today with the presentation of 100m medals.

Fraser Pryce made history yesterday defending her 100m Olympic Crown, the third woman in history to achieve the feat. She also kicked of Jamaica’s gold medal hunt in London.

“In 2008 Usain Bolt was the first person to get a gold medal for Jamaica. And now a woman is in charge, and I am really happy about that after two years that have been really rough for me,” Fraser-Pryce said after her history-making race.

American Carmelita Jeter crashed the Jamaican party placing second with Olympic 200m-champion, Campbell Brown taking the bronze.

Kerron Stewart, who featured in the history making Beijing 1/2/2 -finish for 100m-silver, failed to make the final this time around.

But Jamaica has another opportunity the paint the podium completely Black, Green and Gold with the men’s 100metre final at 3:50pm today. In spite of threats from Americans Tyson Gaye and Justin Gatlin, Jamaicans Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake all have legitimate claims to podium spots.

Medal presentations for the men’s 100m is scheduled for tomorrow, August 6, Jamaica’s Independence Day.
