REGGAE Boyz Ryan Johnson and Nicholas Addlery scored for their teams in contrasting results against El Salvadorian clubs as the CONCACAF Champions League tournament got underway last week.

Johnson scored the final goal in Toronto FC’s 5-1 trashing of Aguilla, while Adderley netted the lone goal for Puerto Rico Islanders in their 3-1 away loss to Isidro Metapan.

Three teams comprise each of the eight groups in the tournament and after the opening day results, Toronto sit atop Group one with maximum three points, ahead of Aguilla and Santos, who are yet to play.

Puerto Rico remain pointless and at the foot of Group Five, along with Los Angeles Galaxy, who are also yet to play. Isidro Metapan lead the group on three points.

At the BMO Field, Johnson scored the last of the home team’s goals after a brace from Reggie Lambe (17th and 47th) and one each from Luis Silva (ninth) and Terry Dunfield (39th) gave them a 4-1 advantage.

The Jamaican international who scored his country’s second goal in their opening World Cup Qualifier back in June, added the fifth goal of the evening when he latched onto a pass from midfield and rounded the Aguilla goalkeeper before squeezing home from a tight angle.

Meanwhile, at the Estadio Jorge Calero Suarez, Addlery, who represented Jamaica at the Under-20 and Under-23 levels, last played for the national team in 2010.

He surprised the hosts when he opened the scoring for the visiting Islanders after 24 minutes.

The 30-year-old striker held off his marker to collect a long ball from midfield, then beat the goalkeeper with a shot on the turn with the defender tightly glued to his back.

However, the Islanders were reduced to 10 players after 35 minutes when Jay Charles Needham was red-carded, and the home team rallied through a second-half hat-trick from Nicholas Munez (51st, 57th, 87th), to take the three points.
