APPROXIMATELY100 of Jamaica’s top players are expected to participate in the two-day 2012 Mayberry Investment Limited Open Junior Tennis Championships which begins this morning at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston, starting at 9:00.

Tomorrow’s play will see the finals scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm at the same venue.

The players will compete in the various age groups, including Boys 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under and 18 and under.

The girls 18’s will be an open event, while the other age-group categories are 12 and under and 14 and under. They will be vying for trophies and prizes along with the winners of each category receiving points towards their country’s ranking.

Top two seeds in the Boys 18 and under singles are Maize Sinclair and Oshane Wright. Meanwhile, William Berry, winner of the All-Jamaica Junior Champion boys 16 and under singles is the top seed in that category with Nicholas Malcolm Jr the second seed.

Due to the lack of entries in the Girls 18 and 16 categories, they have been combined to form an Open where 11 players have entered. Top seed is Michaelann Denton, winner of the Girls 16 and under singles also at the All-Jamaica Junior Championship with Phadria Kepple the second seed.

Kyle Martin and Shane Phillips are the number one and two seeds, respectively, in the Boys 14 and under singles, while Rueben Pinchaf and Justin McLean are seeded one and two, respectively, in the Boys 12 and under singles.

The top two seeds in the Girls 12 and under singles are Jolie Chin and Mikhala Stephens, while in the boys 10 and under the singles the top two seeds are Damari Cain and Richard Barrett, in that order.
