Taylor leads Ja to third T20 win

REGIONAL champions Jamaica marched to an easy 23-run victory over Guyana at Chedwin Park in yesterday’s third round of matches in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Women’s Twenty20 (T20) Tournament.
Captain Stafanie Taylor struck 49, including eight fours off 40 deliveries, while fellow opener Jodiann Morgan made 33 before retiring hurt in a modest total of 109-5.
Guyana were then restricted to 86-4, despite June Ogle making a fighting 36 not out and Shamaine Campbell (26).
Scores: Jamaica 109-5 (20 overs); Guyana 86-4 (20 overs).
After Jamaica took first strike, the first-wicket pair added 76 before an ailing Morgan was forced to leave the field.
The home team, which reached 100 in the 16th over, failed to build on the solid foundation and lost wickets quickly before closing at 109-5.
Guyana, kept at bay by spinner Shanel Daley’s spell of 2-16 off four overs, also struggled with the bat and reached only 86-4 as Jamaica copped their third win in a row. Chedean Nation and Vanessa Watts chipped in with a wicket each for Jamaica.
In the early match at the Chedwin Park venue, Barbados scored a final-ball five-wicket win over the highly-fancied Trinidad & Tobago.
Batting first, T&T scored 119-5 off their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Amanda Samaroo (29) and Britney Cooper (21). Pamela Lavine and Shamilia Connell took one wicket each for Barbados.
In reply, Barbados sneaked to 123-5 on the back of Kycia Knight’s 38-ball 42 and Daneil Small’s battling 30.
Anisa Mohammed (2-21) and Kirbyina Alexander (2-26) took most wickets for Trinidad & Tobago. Scores: Trinidad & Tobago 119-5 (20 overs); Barbados 123-5 (20 overs).
In a low-scoring opening match at Kensington Park, Grenada beat St Lucia by three wickets with seven overs to spare.
Scores: St Lucia 80-7 (20 overs); Grenada 81-7 (13 overs).
In the second game of the double-header, St Vincent and the Grenadines cruised to a comfortable 50-run win over Dominica. Samantha Lynch scored an undefeated 38-ball 46 for St Vincent. Scores: St Vincent and the Grenadines 127-5 (20 overs); Dominica 77-7 (20 overs).
In today’s matches, St Vincent and the Grenadines will face Lucia at Kensington Park at 10:00 am, while Grenada and Dominica lock horns in the afternoon clash at 2 o’clock.
At Chedwin Park, Guyana challenge Barbados in the morning fixture and in the feature at 2:00 pm, Jamaica welcome Trinidad & Tobago.
