DJs heat up Club Riddim

TROPICAL Storm Isaac may have brought torrential rains, but that did not stop patrons at Club Riddim in New Kingston, St Andrew, as they partied at the Red Bull Thre3Style DJ Competition on Saturday night.

DJ Nicco took top honours and chance to compete in the Red Bull Thre3Style global finals in Chicago this September. He beat his other competitors — DJ Narity, DJ Richie D, DJ Naz, DJ Inferno, and DJ Karim — who each took turns delivering their and her best 15-minute sets.

“I am pleased that Red Bull took the chance to consider Jamaica as a country of participation and I will not let us down. My focus is now on the finals in Chicago September 24 to the 29 and I will be bringing all I have for that showdown,” said DJ Nicco.

For an hour and a half, the wheels of steel spun hot under the DJs’ expertise with musical offerings spanning dancehall, hip hop, techno, and even old school reggae. In the end, the three judges — the Captain Collin Hines, Claudette Powell and Christopher Edmonds — were most impressed by DJ Nicco’s skills and declared him the champion and ultimate party rocker. DJ Inferno was second and DJ Narity, third.
