Founder of Carol’s Daughter Lisa Price started her multimillion-dollar hair and skincare business from her kitchen in the 1980s, and today her products are a force to be reckoned with, with women all over the world, devotees to Price’s brand. Invited by Nettle and Moss’s Aisha Morgan to be part of the Jamaica Observer Celebrates Fashion’s Night Out event last Thursday, Under The Dryer caught up with the hair care mogul just moments after her arrival on a morning flight from Canada.

What is your best hair care/skincare advice for anyone using Carol’s Daughter’s products for the first time?

I would say to women with relaxed hair, they should be patient with their new hair growth. Give it time, and get to know what works best for you. And for women trying new products for their skin, just enjoy, and I hope it’s refreshing and new!

How would you define your personal style?

Relaxed bohemian and eclectic. When I need to be polished for particular events, I’ll be polished. I also love colour.

You’re in Jamaica for FNO. What are you most excited for?

Interacting with prospective customers. I’ve only been to Jamaica for vacation, so I’m excited to be here for Carol’s Daughter, so that I can interact with the people here.

You started your multimillion-dollar business from home. What advice would you give young entrepreneurs who are also starting their own business?

Be authentic with your business. Your business has to change and evolve. There has to be something unique about your business and what you’ll bring to the table, so hold onto that, no matter how much you grow and change.

What is the best skincare/hair care advice you have ever received?

Skincare advice was from my mom, who is not a big believer in make-up. She said don’t make it an everyday thing, and be comfortable with your own face. I didn’t really start using make-up until I was in my 40s, because I had dark circles, and had to be at many events. When you wear it always, you start to forget what your face looks like. So it’s good to take a break.

Hair care advice was from my family. They taught me hair care is more about convenience, and not to make you pretty. When my mom relaxed my hair, she told me that it’s not to make me prettier, or to be accepted, it’s to make my hair more manageable. So it’s really all about convenience.
