NWC, Couples clash in Sandals Business House final
Defending champions National Water Commission (NWC) and Couples Sans Souci clash today in the final of the Sandals St Ann, St Mary Business House Football League at 3:30 pm at Drax Hall field.
In the curtain-raiser at 1:30 pm, Gran Bahai Principe meet Sandals Grande Riviera in the third place play-off matchup.
The final will be a grudge match, as NWC defeated Couples Sans Souci when the two teams met in the semi-finals last week. Couples have vowed to avenge that defeat and will be coming out with all guns blazing.
NWC are riding the crest of a wave, having dispatched Couples and Sandals Grande in their last two matches, including a 6-1 hammering of the Sandals team. Top striker Ricardo Reid slammed in four goals in that game and will be the man to watch in today’s encounter.
David Pryce, coach of the defending champions, says his team is brimming with confidence, having peaked at the right time.
“We are confident that we will retain our title,” Pryce noted. “We respect the Couples Sans Souci team, but we have beaten them before and we will do it again.”
Couples Sans Souci have been a dominant force all season, save for the lone loss to NWC and they too are confident of bringing home the title. Easton Anderson and Shavar Brown have been the mainstay of their team so far and a lot will be resting on their shoulders.
Couples enter the final having whipped the dangerous Gran Bahai team 3-0 in their semi-final encounter.
In the curtain-raiser, both Sandals Grande and Gran Bahai Principe will be hoping to end the season on a high note. Gran Bahai Principe have the edge, having defeated the Sandals team when the two met earlier this season.
St Ann FA President Danny Beckford said the season has produced excellent football so far and he was looking forward to an enthralling encounter. “The season has been a great success and the final should be a fitting climax,” Beckford noted.
