SINGER Omi has officially released videos for his debut songs Cheerleader and Standing on All Threes. They have created quite a buzz online in recent months with Cheerleader garnering over 600,000 viewers on YouTube.

Both videos were directed by Tim Cash and filmed in the United States.

Omi, whose real name is Omar Pasley, is managed by Clifton ‘Specialist’ Dillon best known for his work with Grammy winner Shabba Ranks, Mad Cobra and Patra.

“It has been challenging but I really enjoyed making the videos and personally, I love the finished product. At the end of the day however, it’s all about making the fans happy, all I have to do is continue to put in some serious work and try to be better every time,” he told Catch Di Riddim.

The artiste says his musical influences include soul and jazz legends Sam Cooke and Nat King Cole, neo-soul star John Legend and dancehall diva Tanya Stephens.

Originally from May Pen, Clarendon, Omi began singing in his teens, performing in the church, school concerts or community events.

He says his late father, who was known in local music circles as Jah Ken encouraged him to follow in his footsteps as a visual artist and musician.

Omi is currently in the recording studio laying tracks for his debut album.

Love is the choice for Moses

Love Choice is the brand new single from Dominican reggae artiste Aima Moses. The song is featured on the Amore rhythm from Donsome Records.

Moses explained the story behind the song.

“Love Choice speaks about a man being satisfied and pleased with his wife, or girlfriend and expresses how he appreciates her while highlighting the good qualities about her.”

Though he describes himself as versatile artiste, Moses says he prefers doing songs with a social message.

“It is very important to me as an artiste to always sings about real life situations no matter what the subject is,” he said.

The Amore rhythm is the latest from the Adrian Hanson-led Donsome Records. It also features songs from Ginjah, Sizzla, Turbulence, Lady Lex, Erasto, Khago, Nature, Colton T, and Shuga.

Alaine walks on air for charity

Singer Alaine celebrates her birthday with a live performance at Redbones Blues Café on September 21. It is the first staging of her charity event, ‘Walking on Air’ which is aimed at helping persons in struggling communities.

Proceeds from the show will go to the music education programme at Allman Town Primary School and Mary’s Child.

Alaine has adopted the Allman Town school’s music programme which prepares students for the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Music Festival of Arts and performing at the Bank of Jamaica’s lunch-hour concert series.

Mary’s Child is operated by the Mustard Seed Communities.

Walking on Air is also the title of Alaine’s latest single. It will be launched at the event.

Antigua’s 2011 soca monarch, Hard Knaxx, recently made his overseas debut at the West Indian Day Parade in New York City. The artiste, whose real name is Joel Lewis, is also a member of the Mad T Guans group.
