FOOTBALL should be the winner when the slick-moving Boys’ Town host a free-flowing Sporting Central Academy (SCA) in one of five games in the Red Stripe Premier League today.

Defending champion Portmore United and Waterhouse will usher in the first Monday Night Football spectacle of the season at the Ferdie Neita Park; hence, they won’t be in action.

In other games, Arnett Gardens play Highgate; Cavalier entertain Savannah FC; Humble Lion tackle Montego Bay; and Tivoli Gardens host Harbour View.

SCA have started well with wins over Humble Lion and Highgate and are joint leaders with six points. Boys’ Town, who defeated Cavalier before crashing to Waterhouse 1-3, are fifth on three points.

Sporting, who have promised much of over the seasons with their style of football, especially when Jevaughn Watson was pulling the strings and now having found an equally impressive playmaker in the rejuvenated Keith Kelly, will have to be contained if the Red Brigades intend to emerge victorious.

Kelly, along with LeVaughn Williams — who should be eyeing a national call-up — on the right flank; Kadian Wynter and Francois Swaby are the main attackers for the Clarendon team.

But they will be severely tested at Collie Smith Drive by a slick-moving Boys’ Town aggregation with the likes of Romeo Parkes, Michael Campbell, Xavean Virgo, Robert Scarlett, Marvin Morgan, and Daemion Benjamin.

Meanwhile, joint leaders Arnett Gardens, on six points, face a difficult away trip to Drax Hall to play ninth-placed Highgate United, on one point.

The Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis-coached unit is a good mixture of youth and experience and will have a pep in their steps following two good wins over Tivoli Gardens and Humble Lions recently.

The ‘Junglist’ have one of the best playmakers in young Lamar Nelson. But the key to the outcome could well be former Arnett Gardens’ player Jerry Walters, whose role will be to shut down Nelson.

Walters was given that arduous task last week against Kelly and another laborious day could be in store for the former Arnett and Tivoli Gardens player. If he wins the battle, Highgate might just win the war.

But Arnett are not a one-man team and despite injuries to Errol Stevens, Rohan Reid and Kemar G Brown, have capable players in captain Kirk Ramsey, Marcelino Blackburn — who need more than the limited time he got in both games to date — Vishunel Harris, Jason Moore, Fabian Reid, Tyrone Davis, and Andrew Phang.

Calvin Lewis has formed a decent unit and Roberto Fletcher and Carlos Barrett, along with veteran Roen Nelson, are dangerous campaigners and could upset the applecart.

Another intriguing match-up will be between the promoted teams Savannah, third on six points, and eight-placed Cavalier, on three.

Savannah have beaten defending champions Portmore and Harbour View, while Cavalier clipped Portmore also, setting the stage for a clash at Stadium East.

Former champions Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View meet with the focal point being the return of Roland Dean to the Edward Seaga Stadium, but in the Harbour View colours.

Both teams are on three points and hunting their second win. Dean, often the goalscorer for Tivoli Gardens over the years, could be their tormentor.

With Tivoli in a rebuilding phase, Harbour View might just seize the opportunity with their more experienced outfit which includes the likes of Joel Senior, Jermaine Hue, Eric Vernan, Kemeel Wolfe, and Evan Taylor.

Both Humble Lion and Montego Bay United are both pointless and will be hunting their first wins at the Effortville.
