Humble Lion clip MoBay for first win
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Humble Lion recorded their first win of the Red Stripe Premiership season while condemning Montego Bay United to a third successive defeat yesterday at Effortville.
Captain Omando McLeod got the only goal of the game on minute 26 after sweeping home a loose ball into the roof of the net.
In another match, Highgate and Arnett Gardens played to a goal-less draw at Drax Hall Sports Complex.
In Clarendon, midfielders Gregory Morgan and Shauntel Mundle both came close to extending the lead, but could only watch in agony as their close-ranged efforts ricocheted off the frame of the goal.
The visiting MoBay unit were by no means outplayed, but their only real goalscoring chance was wasted by Allen Ottey at the death.
With just about a minute left in time added, the former St James High standout was played through clean on goal by strike partner Lesly St Fleur, but was expertly foiled by home ‘keeper Garth Herron.
The defeat leaves the St James outfit at the bottom of the 12-team standings after their losing streak was extended to three games.
“We are quite pleased with the win,” Humble Lion assistant coach Max Straw told reporters in his post-game interview.
