IN the battle of the newcomers, giant killing Savannah FC rallied to conquer Cavalier 2-1 in their Red Stripe Premier League game at Stadium East yesterday.

Linval Wilson (61st minute) and Jesse Lalor (89th) got the Westmoreland-based team’s goals, while Michael Stone (28th) got the home team’s consolation.

Savannah are now on maximum nine points from three games and occupy pole position in the league.

Meanwhile, goalkeeping errors were the order of the day as Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View battled to a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Edward Seaga Stadium yesterday. Harbour View’s goalkeeper Ashek Taylor made two blunders from which Tivoli Gardens capitalised in the 20th and 90th minutes for a share of the points despite playing with 10 men for over 40 minutes.

First, Taylor allowed Tivoli striker Nicholas Scott to charge down his clearance into an empty net in the 20th minute then allowed a ball to drop from his grasp for which Fabian Campbell tapped home in time added on.

Harbour View themselves benefited when Tivoli Gardens’ custodian Deron Duncan’s mistake allowed a Jermaine Hue 35-metre shot to fall through his grasp for the equalising goal in the 66th-minute.

In between Tivoli’s goalscorer Scott was red-carded for dangerous play on Eric Vernan in the 52nd minute before Hue scored a rare header in 86th minute for what seemed like the winner.

But that wasn’t to be as Tivoli Gardens rallied with a late strike for a deserved share of the points in a game in which Harbour View failed to capitalise playing with an extra man for over 40 minutes.

Both teams are on four points with Harbour View currently in sixth spot ahead of Tivoli Gardens in seventh in the 12-team league.

The match also saw the return to Tivoli Gardens of Roland Dean who made the switch to Harbour View during the summer and he was given the start by head coach Vin Blaine. The man who led Tivoli Gardens to the title on a few occasions, got a few half-chances for his new club and was eventually substituted in the 64th minute after a low-keyed performance.

But Dean was not the only Harbour View player with a low-keyed display as his team failed to make the one-man advantage count and allowed three valuable points to slip through their grasp.

In contrast, it was a former Harbour View player Campbell, who made the switch back to Tivoli Gardens where he was the Under-20 captain, who got the equalising goal for the home team in time added on.
