St Andrew meet Eltham as Urban netball starts
DEFENDING champions St Andrew High will journey to Eltham High as the 2012 ISSA/Digicel Urban High Schoolgirls Senior League Netball competition begins this afternoon at several venues, beginning at 2:30 pm.
The Eltham against reigning champions St Andrew High Senior League GROUP ‘C encounter is scheduled to start at 3:45 after the Junior League clash between both schools.
Defending Junior League champions St Hugh’s will not be in action until next Wednesday when they play away to Denham Town in GROUP E.
Last Friday, St Andrew captured the Urban Senior League Rally by beating Camperdown in the final, while St Hugh’s won the Junior competition with a narrow 3-2 win, also over Camperdown.
Meanwhile, former champions The Queen’s School, who lost to St Andrew in last year’s Senior final, will not be in action until next Friday when they face Hydel away.
Their Junior team, however, should start on a winning note when they journey to Hydel this afternoon.
Other matches scheduled this afternoon in both Junior and Senior Leagues are:
GROUP B – St Jago High vs Mavis Bank; Bridgeport vs Penwood; Donald Quarrie vs Cumberland.
GROUP C – Merl Grove vs Holy Trinity; Meadowbrook vs Jose Marti.
GROUP D – Mona High vs St Andrew Technical; Ardenne vs Holy Childhood; Campion College vs Trench Town.
Forty-six schools are participating in the Urban Schoolgirls League and their respective groups are as follow:
GROUP A – Alpha Academy, Ascot, Camperdown, Excelsior, Innswood, Jonathan Grant, Oberlin and Norman Manley.
GROUP B – Bridgeport, Cumberland, Donald Quarrie, Gaynstead, Haile Selassie, Mavis Bank High, Penwood and St Jago.
GROUP C – defending champions Eltham, Holy Trinity, Jose Marti, Meadowbrook, Merl Grove and Spanish Town.
GROUP D – The Queen’s School, Ardenne, Campion, Holy Childhood, Hydel, Mona, St. Andrew Technical and Trench Town.
GROUP E – St Hugh’s, Vauxhall, Wolmer’s Girls’, Dunoon, St Mary’s College, Waterford and Denham Town.
GROUP F – St Catherine, Tarrant, Tivoli High, Greater Portmore, Charlie Smith, Immaculate, Papine, Edith Dalton-James and Charlie Smith.
