Malvern Basic School to benefit from Bell/Ziadie Celebrity Football
Winchester Park football field at St George’s College will again be the site of the Bell/Ziadie Charity Football event on Heroes’ Day, Monday, October 15, 2012.
The 26-year-old annual sporting event will see the Masters, Sponsors, Entertainers and St George’s Old Boys invitational teams vying for the Bell/Ziadie Charity Shield in a round-robin competition starting at 12:00 noon.
Over 100 basic schools and children’s homes across the island have benefited from the memorial since its inception in 1986, which honours the lives of national football greats, Jackie Bell and Dennis Ziadie, who died in a motor vehicle accident while attending the Brazil vs France World Cup quarter-final in Mexico City that year.
This year’s proceeds will be primarily geared towards completing the construction of Malvern Basic School, which was started last year with funding garnered from the Bob Marley One Love charity football event.
Event organiser Clive ‘Busy’ Campbell shared that the hope is “to complete the building (of Malvern Basic School) after this staging of the event, and help to improve the infrastructure of the four other beneficiaries in Kingston, so we’re very grateful to all the sponsors and teams that have partnered with us to help achieve this year’s goals”.
Campbell also thanked Events and PR company Blueprint Consulting, which is also a sponsor of the memorial, for joining forces yet again in order to get this staging off the ground.
Blueprint Director Deane Shepherd explained: “This year we will be adding a few new elements to make the event even more fun and exciting. We will be producing a three-minute highlight video, as well as appointing celebrity coaches for the teams.”
