Ja cop 11th place in Junior Pan Am hockey
A double strike from captain Kemar Mitchell, with Giovanne Campbell chipping in with a field goal, ensured that Jamaica halted Puerto Rico 3-1 to clinch 11th place at the 10th Men’s Junior Pan Am Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Mitchell scored from penalty corners in the 14th and 50th minutes to end the competition with 13 goals, the second leading scorer so far, after Argentine Gonzalo Peillat (14 goals).
Campbell scored in the 37th while skipper Gabriel Rodriguez slammed home for the Puerto Ricans in the 45th minute.
In another match, Brazil clipped Venezuela, 3-2, to finish ninth while Barbados edged Uruguay, 3-2, on penalties (3-3 at the end regulation and extra time) to place seventh.
This morning at 11:00 Argentina will take on Canada for gold after USA meet Chile for bronze at 9:00.
On Friday, Jamaica ended their participation at the 7th Women’s Junior Pan Championship in 10th spot when Paraguay defeated the Dr Michelle Holt-coached Under-21 girls, 3-0. Uruguay placed fifth, Venezuela sixth, Mexico seventh and Trinidad & Tobago eighth.
Like the men’s, Canada will face Argentina in the gold medal match while Chile battle USA for the bronze.
