Finger-licking Trench Town derby treat for Monday night fans
Trench Town will be rocking tonight with the Collie Smith derby when Arnett Gardens and Boys’ Town clash in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) Monday Night football fiesta at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex tonight at 9:00 pm.
Member of Parliament for South St Andrew, Dr Omar Davies, praises himself on being the only MP with two Premier League teams from the same constituency.
These two teams based on Collie Smith Drive, should provide fans with an exciting game of football on a night where fans can expect nothing less.
Arnett Gardens are in second place on seven points, while Boys’ Town are in fourth spot a point behind with six as both try to stay in touch with the leaders.
Last season, Boys’ Town won this fixture 2-1 and went on to win the other two games 2-0 and 1-0 for a clean sweep in the league on their way to finishing second, 13 points ahead of Arnett Gardens down in eighth place.
This season, the ‘Junglists’ have made their best start for many moons quietly being touted as a dark horse in the title race.
In contrast, their neighbours down the road. Red Brigade, have been runners-up for the last two seasons and are expected to be in the thick of things.
Last season’s MVP Michael Campbell is expected to again lead the Boys’ Town charge with the talented Marvin Morgan, Xavean Virgo, Rafeik Thomas, Romeo Parkes, Robert Scarlett and Daemion Benjamin pulling the strings.
Arnett Gardens will be without national player Errol Stevens, who is expected to have surgery today, inspirational midfielder Rohan Reid, Newton Sterling and Kemar Brown.
But the Paul Davis-coached Arnett, on the other hand, boast some of the country’s most talented youngsters from their winning Under-21 championship team in Lamar Nelson, Ricardo Oldham, Vishunel Harris, Andrew Phang, Jason Moore alongside the sharp-looking Kirk Ramsey, Marcelino Blackburn and former St George’s College Manning Cup star Kemal Malcolm, who is expected to get his first start since his summer move from Waterhouse FC.
Other than the expected intriguing game, fans will be treated to the usual entertainment package from sponsors Red Stripe.
Music, beer, and pan chicken at discounted prices will be the order of the day and as part of the Monday Night football treat.
