Four held for SSP Hewitt’s killing could be released
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Four men detained in relation to the murder of retired Senior Superintendent Anthony Hewitt were not pointed out at an identification parade yesterday afternoon.
Three of the men are Jermaine ‘Duppy Bat’ Smith and Richard ‘Red Head’ Francis, who were listed by the police as persons of interest, and Jomo McLeod.
“They brought their witnesses and none of clients was identified,” attorney Chris Tavares-Finson told the Jamaica Observer.
“Considering the outcome of the identification parade I expect that my clients will be released immediately,” Tavares-Finson said.
Tavares Finson is representing three of the suspects and Peter Champagnie representing the fourth.
Champagnie said in relation to his client: “I’m anticipating now that the police will do the relevant processing and my clients will be released.”
Hewitt was shot and killed two Sundays ago off Red Hills Road in St Andrew.
The police believe that Hewitt’s murder was a contract killing.
