Transport Authority suspends issuing contract carriage licences
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Transport Authority has suspended the intake of contract carriage licences with immediate effect.
The suspension will last a year.
According to communication and customer services manager at the Authority a suspension of issuing such licences is not unusual.
Contract carriage licences are issued to operators who are chartered to transport groups of people.
The organisation does routine reviews of the operations of the contractors to ensure that the number of licences being issued meet actual need, Williams said.
She added that some operators have also been found to operate contrary to the terms of their licences.
The Authority will continue to evaluate the operations of existing contract service providers to guarantee for orderly conduct, said Williams.
