ALISON took dead aim leaving the final quarter bend and came running on resolutely to hit the front inside the final third. She then skittered into a commanding lead to win the $845,000 Keeling Memorial Cup highlight feature by six widening lengths in heavy underfoot condition at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Trained by Philip Feanny for owner/breeder Gladston Bell, Alison, sent off as a 4-1 bet, defied the odds to run 1,100m in a time of 1:07.0 among Restricted Allowance I native-bred two-year-olds to post her second win from three career starts.

Track conditions did not appear to suit some of the runners, but Alison, who was marking time while going the distance for the first time, took to the underfoot conditions like duck to water and after turning up the lane, crippled her rivals with a decent turn of foot as she split rivals.

It was then left to Perfect Neighbour, a 5-2 chance ridden by Leo Miller, to close for second money after escaping from the closing pack. He had another four lengths on the early leader CC Colquhoun, who showed under Omar Walker as a 5-1 shot, while the 2-5 favourite Country Train did not seem to enjoy the heavy going and completed the frame as the 2-5 favourite ridden by champion jockey Dick Cardenas.

Alison, a bay filly by Traditional out of Deja Vu (Schism), earned $461,350 as the winners share for earnings of $1,046,500 lifetime.

Meanwhile, Wayne DaCosta was the leading trainer with two wins, while claiming apprentices Renardo McNaughton and Orlando Foster were the leading riders with two wins each.

Champion and leading trainer DaCosta posted Imperial Fortune in the third race, ridden by McNaughton, and Kal Kal in the seventh, ridden by Dane Nelson.

McNaughton opened the programme aboard Emergence for his other win, while Foster poster the biggest win of the day on the 99-1 chance Whistling Jet for trainer Anthony Nunes in the fourth and brought the curtains down on the programme with the 7-1 betting option Mr Butcher.
