JAMAICA College (JC) remained unbeaten this season with five wins from as many games as they beat Camperdown High, 3-0, in their ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup Group B schoolboy football game at Old Hope Road yesterday.

The last time the teams met, on September 14, JC emerged 1-0 victors and Camperdown were fighting to save face with two wins and a draw so far this season.

The ‘Dark Blues’ went ahead in the 33rd minute through a penalty taken by Junior Flemmings, who was brought down in the area by Camperdown’s Akeem Dawson.

Flemmings easily put away the spot kick to put the group leaders and former champions ahead. He scored the second in the 54th after putting away a left-sided strike headed to him by Mallique Foster.

Camperdown’s defence failed them a third time in time added when Rushane Merrett put away a ball deflected by Foster.

Earlier, Camperdown struggled to find the goal. Rohan Scott came close after a flick over his head, but his shot was saved by JC goalkeeper Odeen Clarke.

JC had a moment of excitement in the 15th when they seemed headed towards opening the scoring as the ball hovered dangerously close to the goal.

However, there was no decided shot on goal and as players kept launching the ball into the air it eventually fell just wide right of goal, stopped in its tracks by Camperdown goalkeeper Reinford Howell.

Hakeem Smith wasted a shot to put the visitors ahead after a free-kick was awarded when he was brought down on the edge of the 18-yard box and was booted too low and swept easily away by the opposition.

Camperdown rued another opportunity to equalise in the 44th after the referee awarded a free-kick from a challenge in the area.

For JC’s coach Delroy Brown, their main goal was met.

“It’s a first-round match… We had an objective and we met the objective,” he said.

Camperdown’s coach Stanford Patrick was resolute in defeat.

“JC caught us off guard more than anything else… JC wanted it more than us so they came on the day and won it,” he said.

Elsewhere in the group, the Waterford versus Mona High game was not played because of a water-logged field. In Group C, St Catherine High edged Ascot High, 1-0, while in Group D, Bridgeport High blanked Haile Selassie, 3-0.
