Keep our children away from the horrible stories
Dear Editor,
What are we feeding our people? I am not speaking in the context of dietary habits related to physiological development, but intellectual food. I am talking about he depraved behaviour of those who have brutally exploited our sisters and our baby – our relatives – because we are all part of the Jamaican family, all stakeholders of this “rock” we call Jamaica.
The anger is very high everywhere. At my home my wife has used the expression “castration” and stoning to death those “beasts”. But is that the answer? What can it be? If we look at the state of Texas, which has very strict laws in the USA, it is still plagued with rape crimes. The Muslim country of Saudi Arabia, where rape is punishable by death, still has cases of rape.
Do we castrate and stone to death? As stakeholders of this “rock”, we must monitor the information media – print, digital and audio-visual – to which our children are exposed, and make sure what they are reading, watching and hearing is wholesome information.
What you feed your mind will produce the fruits of those ingested seeds. I am sure that through our legal system rapists can be imprisoned for life without parole. We don’t have to become vigilantes or castrate and burn them at the stake.
