TOLL GATE, Clarendon – Midfielder Keith Kelly has challenged his Sporting Central Academy teammates to follow up Thursday’s Red Stripe Premiership triumph over Waterhouse with another victory over Savannah today.

The last-gasp 2-1 victory, which came three days after registering a 1-0 win over Cavalier in their Monday Night encounter at Stadium East, pushed Sporting two places up to second in the 12-team league on 13 points.

Leaders Arnett Gardens are also on 13 points, but have a superior goal difference plus a game in hand, and Kelly reckons a third win on the trot should put Sporting in a strong position to earn a place in the first End-of-Round final.

“It’s very important for us to keep this momentum going because we always start the season on a high but falter somewhere down the line so come Sunday we just have to try and maintain this winning streak,” said Kelly.

He added: “Once we can continue accumulating points like this it should put us in a good position to challenge for the title because it will keep up closer to the leaders.”

Newcomers Savannah are also enjoying a pretty impressive start to their Premier League campaign, having earned 10 points from a possible 15 to occupy fifth place.

Coach Nigel Stewart, while urging his players not to take the Westmoreland outfit lightly, is hoping to stretch their unbeaten record at their Brancourt home ground to four games.

“Our aim is not to lose any game at home this season,” said Stewart. “We going up against Savannah and from what I hear they are a good team but this is our home so we are definitely going for three points.”
