MONTEGO BAY, St James — Two more schools could secure their places in the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Ben Francis KO this afternoon as the return round of the daCosta Cup winds down.

Mannings from Zone D and St Mary Technical from Zone J, both closely contested groups, could join early qualifiers William Knibb and Spalding after this afternoon’s set of matches.

Yesterday, Bellefield became the eighth school to book an Inter-zone berth after blanking Cross Keys, 2-0, in a rescheduled Zone F game. Bellefield moved to 15 points, one more than Manchester, who need just a point from two matches to advance.

Today, while Mannings will travel to Belle Isle Sports Complex to face a tough Grange Hill that can also win zone D, St Mary Technical will be idle and have to wait for the results between Brimmervale and St Mary High in Zone J.

St Mary Tech, who play tomorrow, lead with 20 points with two games to go, while St Mary High and Brimmervale who are battling for the other spot, are on 15 points each and today’s game could decide their fate.

St Mary High and Brimmervale played to a 0-0 draw in their first meeting.

Grange Hill, who are third place in Zone D with 12 points from six games, will defend an eight-game home winning streak, dating back to the 2010 season, when they welcome leaders Mannings, on 14 points from seven games, after playing to a 1-1 draw in the first round.

In addition to playing at home, Grange Hill have conceded just once all season and their defence could be tough to breach, but Mannings have scored the most goals in the zone so far — 15.

Meanwhile, St James High will have revenge on their minds when they face Maldon at Jarrett Park in Zone A after being upset in the first round. A win for St James would see them joining Cornwall College on 10 points and also advancing to the Inter-zone.

Meanwhile, the race for the Ben Francis spot from Zone M will continue with Inter-Zone qualifiers Garvey Maceo and Glenmuir both in action.

Garvey Maceo, who have the upperhand with 22 points, will play away to Denbigh, while Glenmuir, on 19 points, will face Porus.
