Cavs rapidly losing RSPL plot
IN seven days, Cavalier’s season has gone from bad to worse, losing three Red Stripe Premier League games on a trot and plummeting to the lower half of the 12-team league.
Having earned promotion for the first time in 17 years, Cavalier started well, winning twice in their first four games, including the scalps of champions Portmore United and former winners Waterhouse FC.
But in the space of a week, ‘Duncan’s Destroyers’ are imploding, losing three games on the trot to Sporting Central, Arnett and now 0-2 to Montego Bay at Stadium East on Sunday.
Cavalier assistant coach Lamar Morgan knows his club will have a warm time regrouping following these losses, two of which were at home.
“It’s going to be hard but we plan to get them back into the right mood because it is not the end of the road for us; we still have a lot of games left in the competition and it is our job to get them back up to par,” said Morgan.
He added: “It always going to be a concern playing our home games and giving up all three points, but at the end of the day, it’s still a work in progress. Today, we made a lot of mistakes and unfortunately, they capitalised.”
That is exactly what Montego Bay did, seized opportunities that presented themselves with substitutes Omar ‘Turtle’ Gordon side-footing home from a corner in the 78th minute and with Cavalier pushing for the equaliser, Leslie St Fleur broke away down the right flank, cut inside and beat goalkeeper David Mitchell at his near post with virtually the last kick of the match in the 90+4 minute.
Montego Bay snapped a two-game losing streak while securing only their second win from seven matches and leapfrogged Cavalier into ninth spot on six points. Cavalier slipped two places to 10th also on six.
Dr Dean Weatherly, head coach of the St James outfit, said this win was long in the making.
“We worked very hard as you know we are in the cellar position, so we have to lift ourselves up game by game. It’s a work in progress and it was a very good game as we put it all on the line and we were successful,” said Weatherly.
