DRAX HALL, St Ann — Humble Lion defeated Highgate United, 3-0, on Sunday at Drax Hall to leave the latter still without a victory in this Red Stripe Premier League season.

Jermaine Christian (47th minute), Omando McLoud (79th) and Denzil Watson (92nd) were on target for Humble Lion.

Highgate should have taken the lead seven minutes into the game when Andre Thomas’ pass to Carlos Barrett behind the Humble Lion defence was booted wide.

Humble Lion launched a number of attacks through Omar Walters, Carlington Smith, Jermaine Christian and captain Omando McLoud, who was closely marked by counterpart Anthowe Dawkins in an epic battle between the two.

Highgate countered through Severo Murphy, Carlos Barrett, Reon Nelson, Donovan Davis and Jerome Wedderburn, but failed to convert as the half ended goalless.

Humble Lion took the lead shortly after the resumption when McLoud was pulled down outside the box by Dawkins. The resultant free-kick by Christian went around the wall and to the right of goalkeeper Maurice Evans.

Highgate tried to respond as Nelson got a free-kick which goalie Garth Heron pushed for a corner. However, it was Humble Lion who went further ahead.

Christian dispossessed Shamir Stewart and passed to McLoud, who eluded his marker and found room to his left to fire past Evans in the 79th for a 2-0 lead.

Humble Lion sealed the issue when substitute Watson picked up a ball on the edge of the box and fired home in the time added.

Highgate’s coach Calvin Lewis was disappointed with his team’s display.

“It was a poor game and we conceded three soft goals. Defensively, we were not at our best… and it cost us the game.”

Winning coach Lenworth Hyde was understandably happy with the result.

“We scored three excellent goals and we worked hard… We were a bit rusty in the first half and improved and as the game progressed, the better our team looked and we got the results.”
