ROSE HALL, St James — A new event, the Corporate Jamaica 5K/10K run, will be added to the schedule of the fifth staging of the Jamaica Triathlon that will be held November 10-11 in Rose Hall, St James.

At Thursday’s press launch at the Iberostar resort, the host hotel for the second year, event organiser Rayne Russell said he was “excited” about the addition which he said would see proceeds going to this year’s charity of choice Children’s Medical Services International.

Russell said they are hoping corporate entities will turn out in their numbers for the event that will be held on Saturday, November 10, starting at 7:00 am.

The Corporate Jamaica 5K/10K and the Fontana Pharmacy Children will be held on a newly-constructed course, adjoining the Iberostar property.

The Olympic Distance triathlon, sprint triathlon and duathlon sprint will be held as usual on Sunday, set to start at 6:00 am.

The Olympic Distance sees the athletes swimming 1,500m in a an “out and back” course off the beach at Iberostar, a 40k bike ride from the hotel to Blue Diamond and back and a 10K run ending at Iberostar.

The Sprint Triathlon will see a 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5K run and Russell said the event continues to evolve in its five years.

“Each year we adapt to improve and to make the event even more sustainable and successful,” he said. “In years one and two we had a wellness festival, In years three and four we had a multi-Sport festival and the schools challenge workshop and now in our fifth year we are rebranding officially from our former title, the Rose Hall Triathlon to the Jamaica Triathlon Health and Fitness Weekend,” he said.

Amanda Dyer, a member of the organising committee, told the Jamaica Observer that more than the 200 competitors are expected to take part and over100 entries have already been received with a month to go.

Entries will be taken up to the day of the events.
