Portland honours Titchfield SCQ team
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Members of the Titchfield High School Challenge Team were yesterday recognised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, Portland branch, for their performance in the Television Jamaica School Challenge Quiz.
Titchfield, which was runner-up in both the 2011 and 2012 finals of the competition, was hailed as unsung heroes of Portland, and members of the team, including teachers, were presented with trophies — courtesy of Express Award — at a civic ceremony held here in the parish capital.
Earlier in the day, the police, cadets, members of the fire brigade, and scouts participated in a colourful parade, while tributes were paid to the country’s national heroes at the ceremony.
Among the officials in attendance were Justice of the Peace Desmond Goulbourne, who represented Custos Roy Thompson; Member of Parliament Lynvale Bloomfield (East Portland); Councillor Derron Wood, who represented MP Daryl Vaz (West Portland); and Mayor of Port Antonio Councillor Benny White.
