THE unavailability of a motor vehicle and inclement weather are said to be hampering the vector control programme Hanover.

“The vector control programme got on the way and our daily activities include inspection of premises, health education and larvicidal work. However, we face two main challenges since it started,” said Lloyd Stewart, Deputy Chief Public Health Inspector for Hanover.

“One is the weather, which we have no control over, and the other challenge we face is with regard to the vehicle which we utilise.”

The programme commenced in the parish more than four weeks ago and is expected to last for three months.

But Stewart, who was speaking at the regular monthly meeting of the Hanover Parish Council recently, explained that the vehicle that is used in the programme is also utilised by the Hanover Health Services to carry out other tasks.

“And so it sometimes causes delay in the start of the daily programme and at times it is a non-starter because the workers would be there waiting on the unit only to hear that it has gone, for example, to another area to make some deliveries, then to come back. And so, they have to wait until that task has been completed to commence the vector control task,” said Stewart.
