ARNETT Gardens coach Paul Tegat Davis has cited injuries and in-fighting among players as the causes for his team’s recent slump in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).

This follows a disappointing end to the first round which saw the Trench Town side losing three of its last five matches to erode its chances of making the first End-of-Round Final.

Arnett had a bright start to the season, winning four of their first six matches and sitting atop the points table. However, after losing to Waterhouse midway the first round, the ‘Junglists’ have only won once in their last four games.

This poor run has seen them slip from first to fourth place, seven points adrift of leaders Harbour View, who defeated them 2-1 in the final game of the round on Sunday.

Although Davis noted that injury has played a major part in their recent poor run, he said a contentious dressing room is tearing the team apart.

“Injury is one of the main things that is hampering us,” Davis stated, pointing to the likes of midfielder Rohan Reid, who was expected to be the senior figure among a talented group of young players.

“But there is in-house fighting between players,” he added, “because everybody wants to play at the same time and that’s really what has been throwing off the team,” he said.

However, Davis says they will be using this ‘free’ week to try and get their house in order and try to re-motivate the players for the second round and the remainder of the league.

“We have a week to look at ourselves and see where we are really going… but the players have to start behaving more professionally and do their jobs because what they’re doing is really hurting everybody,” he said.
