Observer officially launches Learning Corner publication
THE Jamaica Observer yesterday officially launched its Learning Corner, an early-childhood to primary-level publication, at the Naggo Head Primary School in Portmore, St Catherine.
The Learning Corner, which was first published on September 20 and is included in the Daily Observer on Thursdays, features study material for children at the early childhood level, as well as study guides for students preparing for the Grade Six Achievement Test.
The Observer’s circulation manager, Wayne Plummer, told the gathering of students, teachers, parents and stakeholders at an extended devotion service that the school was chosen to host the launch as it was the biggest supporter of the publication.
“On behalf of the board, management and staff of the Jamaica Observer Limited, we want to say a big thank-you to teachers and students for your continued support,” Plummer said.
Among the guests was State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Member of Parliament for East Central St Catherine Arnaldo Brown, who commended the newspaper for the initiative, as well as sponsors Seprod and Flow for their involvement.
Brown encouraged the students to be involved in reading and to become familiar with different technologies available.
“The merger of reading and technology is the direction we have to go in because that is what is taking place now and as the children grow older, they are going to grow with the technology as it evolves over time and the context within which we deal with books and deal with material will change,” he said.
