Six blocked Portland roads reopened — NWA
PORTLAND, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that six of the nine roads in Portland that were made impassable during heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours have been reopened to at least single lane traffic.
Manager for Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the corridors that remain impassable are the Shirley Castle and the Tranquility to Bangor Ridge main roads, and the Bybrook community road, all located in Western Portland.
The roadways that have been reopened to single lane are Spring Garden to Chepstowe, Schoolhouse Corner to Chepstowe, Hope Bay to Orange Bay, Buff Bay to Balcarres, Churchill Corner to Muir Park and the Orange Bay to Windsor Castle main roads.
Landslips blocked all the roadways except the Orange Bay to Windsor Castle road, which was flooded.
In the meantime, some of the drains in St Ann that caused flooding in that parish have also been reopened, the NWA says.
Flooding was reported in St Ann’s Bay, Salem and along the Golden Grove to Davis Town as well as the Priory to Bamboo main roads.
The main road from Green Park to St Ann’s Bay, which was blocked by fallen trees, has also been reopened.
