Jamaica outclassed Martinique 3-1 but fell 3-0 to Bahamas on Saturday in first round NORCECA qualification matches for the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship at the International School Auditorium in Willemstad, Curaçao.

The Bahamians won 25-15, 25-14, 28-26 before the Dellan Brown-led Jamaica took one hour 25 minutes to repel Martinique 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16.

Skipper Brown (18 points), Ryck Webb (17 points) and Delford Morgan (16 points) engineered the win over the French-speaking country.

Both Brown and Webb had 15 kills each, with Morgan logging 11 smashes and Conaradio Taylor chipping in with seven spikes.

Gregory Alpha featured for Martinique with 18 points, with David Lefaivre contributing 13 points.

In their opening match against top-ranked Bahamas, Jamaica lasted one hour and 10 minutes despite Webb’s game-high 14 points, 10 of them from spikes, two from kill blocks, and other two were ace serves. Morgan supported with 12 points, which included 11 spikes.

Bahamian captain Prince’tanique Wilson led with 11 points. He was suppoorted by Renaldo Knowles (8 points), Tony Simon (8 points), and six points each from Byron Ferguson and Shedrick Forbes.

At the end of day one, Bahamas led Pool A with nine points after beating both Jamaica and Curaçao (25-27, 25-18, 28-26, 25-17).

Both Curaçao and Jamaica are both on four points, but the Dutch-speaking country have a better ratio of 0.800 compared with the Steve Davis-coached team’s 0.750.

Early yesterday (Sunday), on day two, Curaçao secured their second win beating Jamaica 25-15, 25-22, 25-20 in one hour six minutes.

Featuring for Jamaica in the match was surprisingly Conaradio Taylor, who scored 11 points. Morgan added eight points and Brown seven.

Darwin Colina performed for Curaçao scoring 18 points while Gilbert Poulina added 14 points and Ebram Raphael, nine points.

The result means that Bahamas will take on Curaçao in the final while Jamaica meet Martinique in the battle for third place, the winner of which will advance to the second round.
