German Christmas concert this Sunday
The Jamaican-German Society (JGS) brings its usual taste of Germany to the Christmas concert season with the 3rd annual Weihnachtslieder – A Jamaican-German Christmas Carol Concert to be held this Sunday, December 9, at the Lisa Narcisse Performing Arts Centre at Immaculate Conception High School (ICHS) beginning at 5:00 pm.
The 2012 edition of the concert will be held in collaboration with the ICHS Orchestra, directed by renowned violinist Steven Woodham and will under the distinguished patronage of Josef Beck ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.
German Christmas carols along with Jamaican favourites will be presented by a chorale of German Language students who will be joined, this year, by guest soloist, Velia Espeut. The Orchestra will perform from its highly acclaimed repertoire including pieces from composers such as Bach and Cacavas.
According to President of the Jamaican-German Society, Doreen O’Connor, the Weihnachtslieder event provides the perfect opportunity for students of the German language and culture to share this with a wider audience.
She says the JGS is happy to be working again with the team from Immaculate to present the concert which is also being held in the spirit of Jamaica’s Golden Jubilee Year.
