STUDIO One stands in the heart of Kingston as the most recognised Jamaican label at home and abroad.

Described as Jamaica’s ‘Motown’ for all its contributions to the birth of Jamaica’s musical genres, Studio One has recorded some of the most iconic names in Jamaica.

Names such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, The Skatalites, Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear, Freddie McGregor, John Holt, Ken Boothe and the Crown Prince of Reggae Dennis Brown in addition to a host of other historic musicians, have all cut numerous hits within the hallowed halls of this studio.

The studio nurtured a 16-year-old Bob Marley, producing his first number one hit with Simmer Down and eventually cut over one hundred tracks for Marley and The Wailers.

Sir Coxsone’s legacy was built on what was originally called Brentford Road, which was eventually renamed Studio One Boulevard in its honour.

Studio One has evolved from just being a concept — when Dodd and company had to record on the premises of Federal Records until he renovated a nightclub called ‘The End’ at 13 Brentford Road — into what would become a hub for Jamaica’s musical revolution.

After Dodd’s death in 2004, his son Courtney Dodd, has begun to restore the much-celebrated studio and in 2012 Coxsone legacy continues.
