Highgate heat up with 5-1 win
HIGHGATE United whipped Savannah, 5-1, at Drax Hall in their Red Stripe Premier League game on Sunday.
Severo Murphy (14th minute), Devontae Francis (18th), Donovan Davis (36th), Kwesi Campbell (86th), and Shamir Stewart (88th) scored for Highgate, while Fabian Samuels replied for Savannah in the 24th.
Highgate took the lead when Murphy fired home at the end of a Devontae Francis, Donavan Davis and Nicholas Swell combination. Before the celebrations had subsided, Anthowe Dawkins’ long pass found Murphy, who relayed for Devontae Francis to beat Nerada Brissett for a 2-0 lead.
Savannah responded quickly and after two quick attacks, Samuels found himself at the end of a Tristan Sommerville-Rohan Young combination and fired past Maurice Evans to cut the deficit as the half ended 2-1. Highgate went further ahead when Campbell chested into an open goal, and Stewart completed the rout when he fired home from outside the box after picking up a ball from Dennis Neish.
“We did not play a disciplined game… the morale of the players are down. We were hoping we would end the round on a more positive note with even a draw or a win” said Savannah’s coach Everton Tomlinson.
Highgate’s Michael Smith was elated.
“I am very pleased with the victory today. A 5-1 victory over any team is an excellent victory and I give credit to our Under-17 national invitee Devontae Francis as he played an excellent game and put himself on the score sheet,” he said.
