My God, My Money
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Judith Allwood, who resides in Florida, launched her book My God, My Money in Kingston, Mandeville and her native parish of St Ann while home on holidays recently.
The 185-page paperback is described as a devotional guide “designed to help those who want to understand and get a sense of peace about the place and function of money in their lives, especially as it relates to their spirituality”.
Allwood, a corporate trainer in the banking and financial services industries and “an avid Bible student” told the Jamaica Observer Central that she started journaling on the topic in 2005 because of her own personal struggles.
The first lines of the preface reads: “In my early years, I learned that ‘it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God’ (Luke 18:25). Afraid of risking the eternal promise, I renounced riches, resulting in the formation of beliefs and attitudes that kept me in ongoing financial despair. Tired of subsistent living, I embarked on an inquiry into what God has to say about money, wealth and riches.”
Though it was not her original intention to write a book, Allwood told the gathering at the Mandeville launch at Ridgemount United Church, that there was a desire to share the insight gained with others.
As a result, My God, My Money was completed and independently published in 2010 through the author’s company, JAG Empowerment Resources.
Stuart Barnes, National Commercial Bank branch manager in Mandeville, described the text as “very pertinent” at this time.
“There are going to be a number of persons who are going to be guided by this book, (who) are going to be blessed by this book. It touches every sphere of life. It is very important that when you are building a foundation you build one that is sustainable. There are principles in the book that will help with that. It is a very easy read. It is recommended that you read, it chapter a day, and meditate on it,” he said.
Allwood said the book was previously launched in New York and New Jersey. It is also available in online book stores.
