FORMER Arnett Gardens and national striker Kevin ‘Pele’ Wilson netted a late winner for the second week running as August Town registered their second victory from as many starts in the JN/KSAFA Super League on Saturday.

The veteran striker, who came on with 25 minutes remaining, latched onto a ball through the Mountian View defence and toed it under Dwayne Colley for the winner.

In other games, UWI turned back Police National, 2-1; Barbican defeated Santos, 3-0; and Shortwood beat Rockfort, 2-0.

August Town’s coach Christopher Bender said, although they have maximum points from their two games, there is still a lot more work to be done as there are at about 60 per cent of their potential.

“Mountain View must considered themselves unlucky as they had the better scoring chances in the second-half. But we are grateful for the three points and gradually this is building the team,” he said.

August Town controlled most of the possession, but the visitors had more clear-cut chances. Andrew Morrison headed against the crossbar early in the second half and midway the period he almost broke through on custodian Diego Haughton, but the latter was quick off his line to deny the striker.

Mountain View, who looked more likely to score, fell behind with three minutes to go when Mitch Wright flicked the ball through a crowd of defenders on the halfway line, and the striker raced through to tuck the ball under Colley for the game’s only goal.

Mountain View’s coach Jahmiah Pettigrew said his team was unfortunate to concede so late after missing many opportunities.

“We lost our discipline and our shape and missed too many chances… but we have a game on Tuesday and we will try to refocus and move from there,” he said.

In the early game at Shortwood, Roshane Smith netted a brace as UWI kept pace with the leaders with 2-1 win against Police. In the second game of the double-header, Gavin McKay and Dimetrio Billett scored a goal each in the second half as Shortwood turned back Rockfort, 2-0.

At Bell/Chung Oval, Barbican defeated the home team Santos, 3-0, while the game between Greenwich Town and Shortwood ended 1-1.

In the late game at Spring Complex, Allman/Woodford rebounded from their opening-day loss against August Town to score a 2-0 win over Olympic Gardens, with Gary Lewis and Norman Bailey finding the back of the net.
