THE sentencing of Rushon Hamilton, the constable convicted last year for murdering a 14-year-old girl, was last week postponed in the Home Circuit Court.

Hamilton will now be sentenced on February 22.

The matter was postponed as a result of Hamilton’s attorney, Valerie Neita-Robertson, wanting an independent psychiatric evaluation to be conducted on her client. She told the court that she came to the conclusion that one was needed after perusing the psychiatric report provided by the prosecution.

The prosecution also asked for an adjournment last week because the lead counsel in the case was not present.

Hamilton was convicted last October for the murder of Jhaneel Goulbourne, who was snatched from the gate of her Harbour View, St Andrew, home in 2008 after a report was made that resulted in Hamilton being charged with carnal abuse.

Several prosecution witnesses testified during the trial that, while they were in custody with Hamilton, he confessed that he shot Goulbourne and dumped her body at sea.
