KINGSTON: The internationally acclaimed Honda brand is boasting two vehicles on Car and Driver’s list of 2013 Top 10 Best Cars.

The marquee Accord is listed for a historic 27th consecutive year and the hatchback Fit impressed the magazine’s editors for a seventh consecutive year.

Eight of the nine generation Accords have won a spot on Car and Driver’s 10 Best Cars list. Arguably one the world’s most respected family sedans, the 2013 Accord has risen as Honda’s triumphant phoenix to wow the world following production setbacks largely due to the earthquake; a convincing reminder that the ‘Big H’ still holds the Power of Dreams.

Commenting on the Accord’s record-breaking appearance on the list, Car And Driver pointed out, “It’s not because the Accord is a looker. What it has is inner beauty. Luxury-car big inside and yet smaller outside than before; this ninth-gen version fully delivers on Honda’s “man-maximum, machine-minimum” philosophy. The Accord’s greatness has always derived from its ability to disappear under its driver, but this new car verges on the ethereal — it is so easy to see out of, so easy to point into a corner, so elegant and light and forgiving in its responses that one big fluid loop develops between man and machine.”

The Honda Fit made its debut on the magazine’s Top 10 Best list in 2007 and has held that spot despite challenges from other hatchbacks by maintaining ‘best in class’ advantages including its surprisingly large interior space. According to Car And Driver, it is so well packaged that it stows as much or more behind its front seats than many small SUVs from Germany do. The Honda Fit boasts a cargo volume of 57 cubic foot; the same size or more than some premium SUVs.

Car And Driver says “there’s more intelligence packed into the Fit than in many cars nearly twice its size. It’s the defining small car–mechanically precise, pared of excess fat, respectful of gasoline, and graced with fluid handling. It’s also hugely practical and affordable. Like a genie lamp, it’s small on the outside and remarkably cavernous inside. The Fit’s every component hums the song of high-quality machinery and that seduced us again.”

The news has thrilled exclusive local dealer of Honda automobiles ATL Automotive, which just ended 2012 on a high note with increased sales of 73.2% over 2011.

Group General Manager of Sales Christopher DaCosta, who has been managing the Honda brand for over 10 years, says the appeal of Honda to Jamaicans has been tremendous. “Jamaicans love Honda. It is a brand that many aspire towards. It looks good and is backed by reliability and the best resale value. Most Honda buyers tend to stick with the brand; whether it be an upgrade to another model or an upgrade to new generation of the same model,” he explained.
