THE second event in the 2013 Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) Sprint Championship kicks into gear at Badda Badda Raceway in Richmond, Priory, St Ann on Sunday.

The action begins at 11:30 am.

The high-speed meet will see drivers engaging in full throttle combat on a 1.2-mile dirt surface for the chance to secure points in this year’s championship.

According to event organiser Julian Gordon, spectators should anticipate a day of dirt-filled family fun complete with quad and trail bike races in between rounds of the sprint competition.

“We’re trying to make it an all-day event that people can really enjoy, and with the addition of a dirt bike competition we expect it to be an entertaining day for all,” Gordon told Auto.

Among the dirt sprint heavyweights expected to tussle are 2012 Rallysport Champion Matthew Gore, Jordan Powell, Daryl King, Dave Lee and Keith Saunders. Joel Jackson, who crushed the competition at last month’s season starter,

is off the island preparing to compete in Rally Trinidad.

Hot shot Jordan Powell, who took the top spot in the highly contested JA2 class in February, told Auto that he is ready for action.

“I have a different engine in place. Really, it’s not fully up to standard at the moment, but we’re gonna run it anyway and see how it goes. This event is all about having fun at this point,” said Powell.

Class rival Matthew Gore, whose Toyota Starlet suffered some technical difficulties in February, said preparations are underway for the event.

“We just finished building a brand new engine and we’re trying to have a new dogbox sent down in time for tuning on Saturday, so at this point my fingers are still crossed. I could compete with a standard gearbox, but that would put me at a significant disadvantage,” said Gore.

Drivers will compete in three two-lap runs for class honours and trophies, with the final three-lap championship run determining who will earn points towards the championship title.
