UTech fancied to retain 4x200m title at Penn Relays
The University of Technology (UTech) will start favourites to retain their 4x200m title at this month’s 119th staging of the Penn Relays Carnival to be held in Philadelphia from April 25-27.
UTech have been rated in the top 10 in seven relay events in the college section, three in the men and four in the women going into the three-day carnival, according to the Penn Relays website.
Along with UTech, UWI, Knox Community College, and GC Foster will be Jamaica’s representative at the tertiary level. Thirty-four high school teams will also participate.
UTech won the men’s colleges 4x200m last year after winning the event in 2003 when a squad led by Asafa Powell became the first Jamaica college team to win a Championship of Americas at the Penn Relays.
UTech have been tipped to retain the title in the men’s 4x200m and are also expected to feature in the 4x100m where UWI, Mona, are also listed in the 4x400m.
The UTech women are expected to do well in the 4x200m, the 4x100m where GC Foster are also named; the 4x400m and the sprint medley relays.
