JAMAICA’S largely inexperienced bowling attack dismissed the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) for a paltry 150 yesterday at Sabina Park, but a clutter of late wickets left the hosts teetering on 62-4 at the close of the rain-truncated day one in the West Indies Cricket Board four-day competition.

Young middle-order batsmen Andre McCarthy and Jermaine Blackwood are not out on two and zero, respectively.

Jamaica, who are already safely through to the semi-finals of the competition, gave first-class debuts to opener Zeniffe Fowler, off-spinner Jamie Merchant as well as McCarthy, and rested regular captain Tamar Lambert, wristspinner Odean Brown, batsman Danza Hyatt and seamer Andrew Richardson.

The move had no ill effects from a bowling perspective as pacer Brian Buchanan, playing in only his second four-day match, got ample sideways movement and a bit of bounce on the Sabina surface to grab 3-36 in 11 overs.

He was assisted by left-arm fast bowler Sheldon Cotterell, who grabbed 3-52, and the crafty left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, who finished with 2-34.

Merchant, who bowled two brief spells, grabbed 2-5 to help wrap up the Combined Campuses innings for 150.

The 40-year-old left-handed batsman Floyd Reifer top scored for the CCC with a battling 63 runs off 126 deliveries. He hit eight boundaries and a lone six in an innings that saw him reach fifty in first-class cricket for the 41st time.

Reifer was the last man dismissed when he missed a leg side delivery from Merchant and was stumped by wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh after an initial fumble.

Opener Shacoya Thomas hit a quickfire 35 off 47 balls before he was bowled by Cotterell.

Jamaica, the five-time reigning champions, replied positively, despite losing Fowler (one) leg before wicket to pacer Dawayne Sealy at 29-1.

They marched to 53-1 before heavy showers interrupted proceedings for 15 minutes shy of two hours in the post-tea session.

Upon the resumption, opener Brenton Parchment (32), who played a few sumptuous shots around the park, was bowled by a full, swinging delivery from leftarm seamer Raymon Reifer, the brother of Floyd.

The left-handed Simon Jackson (15) and night watchman Buchanan (0) followed soon after as Jamaica reached 62-4 when the umpires decided to end play at 6:15 pm.
