Williams tops 42-mile cycle race
MONTEGO BAY, St James — MONTEGO Bay’s Oshane Williams won the Elite category in the Rotary Club of Montego Bay East Bikeathon, beating the in-form Marloe Rodman in the 42-mile race to Lucea and back.
Williams clocked 1 hour 37 minutes and 39 seconds from Fairview Shopping Complex to Lucea and back to beat his national teammate, while Sheldon Pellington was third.
Over 300 riders participated in the event that was put on to raise funds for scholarships for needy students.
Bianca Hernould won the Elite female section,also over 42 miles to Lucea and back, beating Elisabeth Mondon and Ina Daley.
Gary Smith won the Masters section ahead of Martin Dennis and Donald Davis, while Owen Cardoza won the junior section, 12 miles to Great River and back, in 50 minutes and 42 seconds, beating Damien Harris and Jemar Brissett.
