Flames confront feared Jaguars today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Surprise team Lucea Flames will get a tough test this afternoon when they face leaders and undefeated Granville Jaguars in the first game of a Flow National Basketball League-West double-header at the Montego Bay Cricket Club today starting at 4:30 pm.
Flames are coming off a 65-62 upset win over two-time defending champions Catherine Hall All-Stars on Wednesday and will be full of confidence facing up to Jaguars, winners of three straight so far and 20 straight regular season wins dating back to the 2011 season.
Also today, promoted MBCC Knights will take on second-placed Hoopers who are on five points from three games.
Two more games will be played tomorrow at Cricket Club: Catherine Hall All-Stars will seek their first win when they take on Lane Tigers in the first game followed by Knights against Jaguars.
On Wednesday, Leroy Lawrence put in a strong performance, scoring 22 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as Granville Jaguars made it three wins in a row with a 71-64 result over win-less Lane Tigers at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
The win gave Granville, last season’s beaten finalists, the lead in the points tables with six points ahead of second-placed Hoopers who are on five points, while Flames surprised two-time defending champions Catherine Hall All-Stars 65-62 in a game that went down to the wire.
Tigers, who were also losing for the third straight game, had a strong second half, outscoring Granville 34-31 but failed to make up a nine-point (40-31), deficit eventually going down by seven points.
Dave Black scored 17 points for Granville and had five assists and two steals, while Wayne Morris was the top scorer for Tigers with 17 points, three rebounds and four steals. Omar Taylor scored 13 points and had seven rebounds.
